God, I Hate You And My Government.
Say what you want about Seymour Hersh, but if even 1/10 of what he’s reported on in this piece in the New Yorker is accurate, we’re completely screwed.
Of particular interest is our joint amazement of even the possibility of using nukes as a first-strike weapon, and how even in the face of overwhelming domestic opposition he’ll… well… stay his course. And I say his course because it’s not many other people’s course. While there are some people I’m sure who’d love to see mushroom clouds in Tehran, most of his constituents are just afraid to speak up. We have a Demagogue who has so scared the people and politicians of this nation, that the very fabric of our country- the very strings that tie together our Constitutional beliefs- are being ripped apart by religious extremism. This isn’t the Good Guys vs. the Bad Guys, this is Christians vs. Islamics. This is a Holy War of global scale: Us vs. Them.
Remember back when North Korea was enemy #1 (#2 until we dismantled Iraq completely)? Why aren’t they still on the radar? Because they’re not Islamic. They are, generally, Atheist. Bush has less of a theological imperative to invade/nuke/destroy them. After all, those perceived as Islamic Terrorists are the new Communists.
