Long Haul
[This post is based on my trail journal for the day in question. Parts may be redacted or expanded as memory and whim dictate]
After a great breakfast the Galehead hut I headed out. The views from Guyot and Zealand Mountains were very nice, as were those from the Zeacliff. I reached the Zealand hut around 2, feeling pretty good. That was the easiest leg I’ve done thus far this trip, but still quite hard. After a brief refit I’ll head out.
8:30p @ Highland Center, Crawfords Notch: My knees killing me, and sore muscles, but in good spirits I got off-trail a few hours ago, but had to get a bunk and have dinner. I had a hot shower for the first time since leaving home, and disinfected every inch of my body. A splendid “gourmet buffet” ensued and now I’m chilling in the bunkhouse – much MUCH nicer than those in the huts. I had not intended when I set out today, to go this far. I’ve in fact completely made up for the day I “lost” staying at Galehead!! I had planned from the beginning to take a day off here and check out the local sites.
