In The Beginning
I had an Olympus D-450 Zoom for quite a while. This is a great camera for casual "point-and-shoot" applications. Nice to throw into the duffel when taking a road trip, hunting wildflowers, or even the occasional panorama. It's one major drawback is the 3x zoom, which doesn't let you get very close to far away things.
Then There Was Light
Next came the Olympus C-2100 Ultra Zoom... It had a 10x optical zoom, 2.7x digital zoom (for ~27x zoom), and a myriad of other features (not to mention it can record QuickTime movies at 15 frames per second WITH sound).
And All Was Good
So after a looooong love affair with the C2100, I acquired an SP-570 on a good deal. 20x optical zoom, 5x digital zoom (100x total), 13.5 FPS still-shot-rate and 30 FPS VGA-grade AVI recording, to round out the important specs.
