Dragon Song

Off and on for almost 15 years, the world of Dragon Song has been a focus of my attentions. Beginning as a story I wrote for school; evolving into a world I created for a PnP (pen-and-paper) RPG; to a SALT script-based door game for a BBS; to a web-assisted MUD written in Perl; to a vibrant MMORPG world. It seems that I always return to the realm of the Colston Dynasty.

Features

I'm not going to get into these much until some more things have solidified technologically. The network protocol is solid. The server is pretty much solid. The client engine and content are the liquid parts. What's listed below may change at my whim.

  • 9 player races
  • 7 (and growing) player classes
  • Over two dozen cities
  • Hundreds of quests
  • Both instanced and shared gameplay possibilities
  • Full concept of time and weather, including changing seasons

I'm intending on a full, original soundtrack; and numerous, diverse voice actors. These things cost money: Real money, not "hey if I make some I'll share" money.

Backstory

The Land has been ruled by a number of ruling families, but the Colston family has for ruled the last several hundred years. Lord Colston (called King Colston by most, although he is not a King by right) rules loosely, allowing local lords to control much of the Land.

The Killing was a movement by the Knights of the Omza Forest and other soldiers of fortune, under the order of some unknown evil, to exterminate the Druids and plunder their vast wealth. Many Druid homes were destroyed, villages erased, the mighty enclave of Zu Kaba reduced to ruin, and thousands of Druid lives were lost before The Flight.

The Flight was an earth-shattering summoning of hundreds of dragons - Many breeds of which had never been seen to that point, and haven't been seen since - That killed off the Knights of the Omza Forest, and razed the Omza Keep to dust, thus ending The Killing. It has only been 20 years since the The Flight, but there is no trace of what was once Omza Keep. Since the end of The Flight, rumors have spread about how exactly The Flight was induced. The great Sage Elna, believes that the dragons were summoned by a powerful Dragon Song. After The Flight, the followers of Zir abandoned the High Temple of Zir at Minosk, and migrated to Lollinsdale.

Dragon Song is a practice thought long-dead, whereby an individual can sing a special song, and call a dragon. The song that induced The Flight, says Elna, was such a special song, sung by such a special person, that they were able to raise the hundreds of dragons.

The Goal is whatever you want it to be. Perhaps solving the mystery of "who started The Flight", or perhaps harnessing Dragon Song, or perhaps just walking around and interacting with others... killing some on occasion.
