For Gnome users who want to keep an audio-visual tab on what's happening with their Nagios monitoring system, Nagios Applet is available. It's written in Perl, and requires some pretty heavy modules.
Windows users will want Nagios_Tray.

The 'festival' package needs to be installed to do text-to-speech "reading" of alerts.
